Crochet Classes

Learn to crochet! We offer a variety of crochet classes, taking you from absolute beginner to learning more advanced skills. Classes are held in-person at the Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open.

Knitting Classes
This fall we are offering a variety of knitting classes from beginning knitting to advanced knitting skills! Please note that some classes are offered online and some are held in-person at The Tea Cozy, either before we open or after we close.
All online classes are taught live via Zoom, feature two cameras and are recorded in case you need to review a skill or miss a class.

Beginning Knitting - First Cowl
(ONLINE)

Learn to knit! In this class we’ll learn all the knitting basics: casting on, knitting and purling, binding off plus seaming the finished garment. In three sessions you’ll have your very own chunky cowl and the skills to make more. This online class is perfect for the person who has never knit before or would like to refresh their skills.
Skill Level: Absolute Beginner!

Momo Motte Sweater
(ONLINE)
Play with color and expand your knitting skills into the world of stranded colorwork sweaters. In this online class, learn colorwork knitting techniques, get tips on choosing colors, understand color dominance and how to adjust the yoke to get a great fit. You’ll also learn the alternating cable cast on.
Skill Level: You have knit at least one garment and are confident with knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, and casting on and binding off. Beginning experience with colorwork is helpful but not necessary.
Dates: Bonus Materials Planning Class, Tuesday, January 13 from 10 to 11:30 am to talk about yarn, notions, how to measure your body and make a gauge swatch, pattern(s) and more!

Afterthought Everything Sock Class
(IN-PERSON)

Take that special skein of sock yarn and finally make the socks you have always wanted. In this class you will learn how to cut into knitted fabric and add afterthought heels, toes and cuffs to a pre-knitted sock tube. We will use our sock tube machine to knit a tube for you (before class) and then show you how to turn it into socks!
Skill Level: You have knit at least one sock and are confident with knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, decreasing and binding off.

Lento Sweater
(ONLINE)

The Lento Sweater is an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of sweater knitting. Knit from the top down using raglan construction, knitters will learn all about gauge, yarn substitution, and how to choose a size. From there, this online class will break down each technique to learn German short rows, increases & decreases, tips for knitting sleeves and more. You’ll finish this series with a beautiful sweater that fits YOU! This sweater class is ideal for both brand new and intermediate garment knitters.
Skill Level: Solid knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, and casting on and binding off. Familiarity with increases is helpful. You have knit a few accessories.
Dates: Bonus Materials Planning Class: Thursday, January 15 from 10 to 11:30 am to talk about yarn, notions, how to measure your body and make a gauge swatch, pattern(s) and more!

Quick Start Class: Totally Tubular Techniques
(IN-PERSON)

You might have noticed that tubular cast-ons and bind-offs are popping up everywhere these days. And for good reason—they create a cuff, brim, collar, or edge that is an ideal combination of stretchy and elegant. They can be a bit fiddly at first, but this Quick Start class will get you over the hump and on the road to tubular success!
What you’ll learn:
- How to knit a tubular cast-on for a 1x1 rib
- How to knit a tubular bind-off for a 1x1 rib
- How to rearrange stitches for a 2x2 rib
Skill level: This class is for those who are comfortable knitting and purling.

First Hat

Knit your first hat! In this class we’ll learn to knit in the round while reviewing all the basics of knitting: casting on, knitting, purling, decreases, binding off and weaving in ends. In two sessions you’ll have a cozy hat to keep you warm.
Skill Level: This class is for those who have basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, plus casting on and binding off.

Quick Start Class: Fixing Mistakes
(IN-PERSON)

Everyone makes mistakes—even the most experienced knitters! One of the keys to building confidence in your knitting is learning how to recognize mistakes and how to fix them.
If the thought of a dropped stitch or misplaced purl has been sucking the joy out of your knitting, this Quick Start class is for you!
What you’ll learn:
- How to “read your knitting” to spot mistakes
- How to pick up dropped stitches
- How to change a knit to a purl
- How to fix twisted stitches
- How to un-knit (aka “tink”) without losing your stitches
- How to rip back (aka “frog”) without losing your cool

Quick Start Class: Tips & Tricks for Successful Stranded Knitting
(IN-PERSON)

Stranded colorwork (aka “Fair Isle Knitting”) is one of those techniques that is relatively easy to get the hang of…but knitting with two colors is just the beginning. As the saying goes, “The devil’s in the details.” And stranded colorwork is all about the details!
Whether you’re suffering from muddy colors, struggling with color dominance, or strangling your floats, this Quick Start class is for you.
What you’ll learn:
- How to choose yarns for colorwork projects - color, hue, and weight
- How to decide which color should be dominant, and how to hold yarns to maintain a consistent dominance
- How to maintain an even tension when changing colors
- How and when to trap floats
Skill level: This class is for those who have some colorwork experience and are comfortable knitting and purling in the round.

Quick Start Class: Cables Galore!

Cables are definitely in for 2026! If you’ve been eyeing that fabulous fisherman’s pullover, but are intimidated by all the twists and turns—not to mention the wacky charts—this Quick Start class is for you!
What you’ll learn:
- How to make left- and right-cross cables.
- How to make cables with and without a cable needle.
- How to read a cable chart and tips for keeping things straight.
Skill level: This class is for those who are comfortable knitting and purling and have some experience reading knitting charts.
