Quick Start Class: Tips and Tricks for Successful Stranded Knitting

Stranded colorwork (aka “Fair Isle Knitting”) is one of those techniques that is relatively easy to get the hang of…but knitting with two colors is just the beginning. As the saying goes, “The devil’s in the details.” And stranded colorwork is all about the details!

Whether you’re suffering from muddy colors, struggling with color dominance, or strangling your floats, this Quick Start class is for you.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to choose yarns for colorwork projects - color, hue, and weight
  • How to decide which color should be dominant, and how to hold yarns to maintain a consistent dominance
  • How to maintain an even tension when changing colors
  • How and when to trap floats

Yarn & Tools:

  • 2 colors of worsted weight yarn, at least  50 g of each color
  • 16-inch US 7/4.5 mm circular needle
  • Also bring along a stranded colorwork pattern from your queue  so you can practice on something you want to knit!

Skill level: This class is for those who have some colorwork experience and are comfortable knitting and purling in the round.
