 One-On-One Knitting Help

The Tea Cozy has an ongoing Knitting Help Desk. For simple problems, we offer free help when the shop is open (between customers).

For more complex issues, we can schedule a time for dedicated one-on-one knitting help. To make an appointment, please contact us at knit@teacozyyarn.com with a brief description of your challenge and a phone number where we can reach you.

Fee:  $20 per 30 minutes

 

 Project Help Classes

Project Knit and Crochet with Jule

(In-Person)

This ongoing class is open to all levels from Newbie to Guru.  Bring whatever you are working on or get help starting a new project or learning a new technique. Jule’s guidance and purls of wisdom will help you decipher directions, fix a knit or crochet crisis, and achieve the perfect fit.  Yes, all your questions about blocking, sewing, and finishing can be answered.

Class Dates:  Tuesdays 10:30 am - 12:00 pm at The Tea Cozy Yarn Shop

Fee:  $20/ Class, $35/hour for private lesson, payable by cash or check to Jule on day of class

Crochet Classes

New this fall! Learn to crochet with two beginner classes. If you have never held a hook before, it will be best to start with the Intro Class. Then you can proceed on to the Granny Squares Class. Both classes are held in-person, at the Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open.

Skills needed:  None! This class is for absolute beginners.

In-Person Class Dates:  Sundays, January 5th and 12th from 10:30 am – 12 pm

 Granny Squares

(In-Person)

 

Learn a basic Granny Square and you will have the understanding to work many different variations and many different projects, from accessories to garments to a blanket masterpiece.

Skills needed:  This is beginner level, but it will help if you know how to chain stitch, slip stitch and single and double crochet. If it has just been awhile, we can refresh your memory!

In-Person class dates:  Sundays, January 19 & 26 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.

Fee:  $60

 Knitting Classes

This winter we are offering a combination of In-Person and Online classes from Beginning Knitting to beyond the basics, with several fun sweater options. Our In-Person classes will be held at The Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open, to provide a quieter environment for learning. Our Zoom classes have been held successfully online for several years and feature two cameras for clear viewing. Online classes are recorded in case you need to review a skill or catch up on a missed class. Both are great options. We hope you'll join us to learn something new!

 Beginning Knitting Classes 

First Shawl

(Online)

 

The Interval Shawl is an excellent next step in your knitting journey. A wonderful first shawl for the new knitter and a great way to continue to grow the skills you learned in the First Cowl or First Hat class. You’ll be introduced to what gauge means, pattern reading and how to fix mistakes. There will be plenty of knitting practice, plus new skills to add to your tool kit. In 3 sessions, you’ll have a cozy shawl to wear and the skills to knit more. Next step: Sweater!

Skills needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches plus casting on and binding off.

Online session class dates:  Thursdays, November 21; December 5 & 19, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

First Cowl

(Online)

Learn to knit! (Or refresh your skills). In this class we’ll learn all the knitting basics: casting on, knitting and purling, binding off, plus seaming the finished garment. In three sessions you’ll have your very own chunky cowl and the skills to make more.

Skills needed: None! This class is for absolute beginners.

Online session class dates:  Tuesdays, January 28; February 4 & 11, from 10:00 - 11:30 am

Lento Sweater

(In-Person or Online)

 

The Lento Sweater is an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of sweater knitting. Knit from the top down using raglan construction, knitters will learn all about gauge, yarn substitution, and how to choose a size. From there, we will learn German short rows, increases & decreases, tips for knitting sleeves and more. You’ll finish this class with new skills and a beautiful sweater that fits YOU! This sweater class is ideal for both brand new and intermediate garment knitters.

Skills Needed:  Solid knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Familiarity with increases is helpful. You have knit a few accessories.

 Beyond the Basics Classes 

Hilma Hat

(In-Person)

 

The Hilma Hat, by Lis Smith for Brooklyn Tweed, is an adventure in two-color double knitting. In this In-Person class, knitters will learn the Provisional Crochet Cast on, colorwork in double knitting, ribbed double decreases and more.  This sweet abstract floral hat creates a fabric that is reversible so at the end of this series it will feel like you have two new hats! 

Skills needed:  Confident in knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Knitters have knit a hat in the round before and have done at least one colorwork project. 

In-Person session class dates:  Saturdays, January 4, 11 & 18 from 10 am - 12 pm

 Sheep Camp Sweater

 (Online via Zoom)

 

Sheep Camp Sweater by Jennifer Berg:  Play with color and explore stranded colorwork while knitting this sweater that features a fun, geometric yoke. In this class you’ll learn colorwork knitting techniques, tips on choosing colors and color dominance, plus how to adjust the yoke to get a great fit.  Expand your knitting skills into the world of colorwork sweaters.

Skills needed:  You have knit at least one garment and are confident with knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Beginning experience with colorwork is helpful but not necessary.

        Bonus Materials Online Class:  Friday, December 13, 2024 from 3 - 4 pm PST. This is a chance to talk about yarn, notions, how to make a gauge swatch, pattern(s) and more.

        Online Classes:  Fridays, January 10, 17 & 31; February 14 & 28; March 14 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm PST. Please note that class on January 17 is from 3 - 5 pm.

        Each class will be recorded. The link will be emailed within 24 hours of class.

            Beginner's Brioche Cowl

            (In-Person)

             

            Build on your knitting skills and learn the brioche stitch! In this class, knitters will be introduced to two-color brioche in the round while making a cozy, reversible cowl. Learn tips, and techniques plus how to fix mistakes to ensure your first time knitting brioche is a success.

            Skills needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, increases, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off.

            In-Person session class dates:  Saturdays, February 1 & 8, from 10:00 - 11:30 am.
