Crochet Classes
Learn to crochet! We offer a variety of crochet classes, taking you from absolute beginner to learning more advanced skills. Classes are held in-person at the Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open.

Knitting Classes
This spring we are offering a combination of In-Person and Online classes from Beginning Knitting to beyond the basics, with several fun sweater options. Our In-Person classes will be held at The Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open, to provide a quieter environment for learning. Our Zoom classes have been held successfully online for several years and feature two cameras for clear viewing. Online classes are recorded in case you need to review a skill or catch up on a missed class. Both are great options. We hope you'll join us to learn something new!

Beginning Knitting Classes
Lento Sweater(In-Person or Online)
The Lento Sweater is an engaging introduction to the fundamentals of sweater knitting. Knit from the top down using raglan construction, knitters will learn all about gauge, yarn substitution, and how to choose a size. From there, we will learn German short rows, increases & decreases, tips for knitting sleeves and more. You’ll finish this class with new skills and a beautiful sweater that fits YOU! This sweater class is ideal for both brand new and intermediate garment knitters. Skills Needed: Solid knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Familiarity with increases is helpful. First Hat(Online) Knit your first hat! In this class we’ll learn all the basics of knitting in the round: casting on, decreases, using double point needles plus binding off, weaving in ends and blocking. In two sessions you’ll have a chunky hat to keep you warm and the skills to make more. Skills Needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, plus casting on and binding off. First Shawl(Online)
Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West: This is the perfect next step in your knitting journey. A wonderful first shawl for the beginner or more experienced knitter. You’ll be introduced to what gauge means, pattern reading and get lots of practice with the knit and purl stitch. In this class you’ll learn Make 1 Left & Right increase stitches, garter tab cast-on and I-cord bind off if you’re feeling brave. Plus learn how to fix common knitting mistakes. In 3 sessions, you’ll have a gorgeous shawl to wear and lots of knitting confidence. Skills needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches plus casting on and binding off. Tolsta Tee(Online)A perfect first sweater project or a template to explore new skills! Using the versatile Tolsta Tee pattern from Rebecca Clow, we’ll learn all the important steps in knitting a top-down sweater that fits YOU! In the first class we’ll look at yarn, gauge, sizing and how to make pattern adjustments for the neckline, bust and more. From there, we’ll break down each technique step by step to learn German short rows, increases & decreases with ways to track them plus tips for knitting stripes, eyelets or texture. You’ll finish this series with a beautiful summer top. This class is offered online so you can join the fun from anywhere! Beyond the Basics Classes
Sheep Camp Sweater(Online) Sheep Camp Sweater by Jennifer Berg: Play with color and explore stranded colorwork while knitting this sweater that features a fun, geometric yoke. In this class you’ll learn colorwork knitting techniques, tips on choosing colors and color dominance, plus how to adjust the yoke to get a great fit. Expand your knitting skills into the world of colorwork sweaters. Skills needed: You have knit at least one garment and are confident with knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Beginning experience with colorwork is helpful but not necessary. Class Dates: Bonus Materials Online Class: Friday, December 13, 2024 from 3 - 4 pm PST. First Cables Hat(Online)
Take a leap and learn to cable! The First Cables hat is a perfect way to learn the basics of cable knitting. In this class, choose from a beanie or double-brimmed watchcap and in two sessions you’ll learn how to cable with and without a cable needle, basic shaping increase and decrease techniques plus how to read a chart. Skills needed: Working knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, plus casting on and binding off. Familiarity with KFB (Knit Front and Back) increase stitch, K2Tog (Knit 2 Together) and SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit) decreases helpful but not necessary. Knitters have knit a hat before. Slanty Stripes

Rye/Rye Light Socks(In-Person)
Turn a heel with confidence and knit a pair of socks with this great pattern from Tin Can Knits! During this in-person class at Tea Cozy Yarn Shop in Seattle, you’ll knit a cuff-down sock while mastering all the basics of sock knitting. Learn about sizing, turning a heel and the Kitchener stitch to close the toe. At the end of the series, you’ll have one knit sock and the skills to complete the pair. Choose from the original worsted weight version of the pattern or Rye Light, the fingering weight version. Both patterns provide sizes from baby to adult. Skills needed: Confidence with knit & purl stitches, increase & decrease stitches plus knitting in the round. Familiarity with short rows is helpful.
