Retrosaria Vovó

Vovó, meaning "Grandma" in Portuguese, is a highly durable, sport weight, non-superwash yarn. Made exclusively from Portuguese wool that has been sourced primarily from Campaniça sheep, it is an ideal option for the sweater you wear every day.

Vovo Natural colors are made with natural dyes using plant pigments as follows:  N01 - sappanwood, N02 - indigo, N03 - rubia tinctorum, N04 - marigold, N05 - acacia catechu, N06 - pomegranate rind, and N07 - mulberry leaves. These colors may vary between batches (dye lots).

Because of their delicate nature, these colors require a little extra care. From the Retrosaria website:

Note: due to the nature of the dyes used in this collection, it is very important that you take extra care of your garments knitted with Vovó Natural to minimise color bleeding and bleaching. Hand wash your knits in cool water using a gentle detergent, and dry flat out of direct sunlight. Do not use detergents containing sodium perborate, as these will bleach the natural dye. Store skeins of Vovó Natural away from direct sunlight.

As with all yarn dyed with indigo, some contact transfer is to be expected with shade N02. Please refrain from wearing your N02 knitwear with other light-colored garments or handbags that may rub against it, to avoid color transfer. If the indigo stains your hands while knitting, simply wash your hands with soap and warm water. We suggest washing your N02 finished project in cool water with a small amount of vinegar to help set the color.
