From beginning knitting to expert technical help, we offer a wide range of classes.

 One-On-One Knitting Help

The Tea Cozy has an ongoing Knitting Help Desk. Barbara Ceiga, one of our knitting instructors and stitch sleuth, will help you get back on track. If the problem can’t be sorted out quickly over the phone, you and Barbara will make an appointment to meet either in person at The Tea Cozy or by video chat to solve it and get you back on track.

Fee:  $20 per 30 minutes

 Beginning Knitting Classes

All classes are taught live via Zoom and feature two cameras for clear viewing. You can learn more about the instructor, Laurel Garcia at www.mycasaazul.com and find answers to frequently asked questions.

 

My First Cowl

Learn to knit! (Or refresh your skills). In this class we’ll learn all the knitting basics: casting on, knitting, and purling, binding off plus seaming the finished garment. In three sessions you’ll have your very own chunky cowl and the skills to make more.

Skills needed: None! This class is for absolute beginners.

Class dates:  Fridays, April 21 & 28, May 5 from 10 - 11:30 am

 My First Circular Yoke Sweater

The Super Simple Summer Sweater is a basic top-down circular yoke pullover by Joji Locatelli. This sweater introduces the new or more experienced knitter to color play, yarn choice and custom sizing. In this class, we'll take a deep dive into gauge swatching to create a fabric you love and what to do if you don't get the pattern's gauge. From there, we’ll breakdown each technique step by step plus learn how to avoid jogs in our stripes. A great first sweater or an opportunity to dive deeper into sweater knitting. 

Skills needed:  Solid knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Familiarity with increases is helpful. 

Class Dates:  Wednesdays, March 29, April 5 & 19, May 3, 17, 31 from 10:00 - 11:30 am. Note: Class on April 5 is from 10-12pm.

Intermediate Knitting Classes

Ready for some fun and a few new techniques? Here are some more classes from Laurel to expand your skills and set you up for knitting success.

 

Ranunculus

Ranunculus by Midori Hirose

Knit this beautiful and versatile circular yoke pullover in a workshop style class. This sweater features lace and textured stitches, can be long or short sleeved and can be knit with lace, fingering up to worsted weight yarn. Learn new increase and decrease stitches, choose from different cast ons, bind offs and more. Short rows can even be used to shape the sleeve cuffs. We will use your gauge to determine the best fit to achieve your desired look. This pattern is full of  adventure for the intermediate knitter!

Skills needed:  Firm knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, casting on and binding off stitches. Experience with short rows, increases and decreases. Must have knit at least 1 sweater before.

Class Dates:  Wednesdays, April 5 & 19, May 3, 17 & 31, June 14 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

Wilson Top

Wilson Top by Allyson Dykhuizen

This perfect for summer tee is knit from the top down using eyelet increases for the yoke and an easy to memorize all over mock garter stitch pattern. In this class we’ll learn how to swatch with cotton or linen yarns (or wool if you choose), follow a pattern and how to customize the yoke for a great fit. Whether this is your first knit top or not,  it’s a fun and quick knit for new and seasoned garment knitters. Imagine how warm it will be when we wear our summer Wilson Tops!

Skills needed:  Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off stitches.
