One-On-One Knitting HelpThe Tea Cozy has an ongoing Knitting Help Desk. Barbara Ceiga, one of our knitting instructors and stitch sleuth, will help you get back on track. If the problem can’t be sorted out quickly over the phone, you and Barbara will make an appointment to meet either in person at The Tea Cozy or by video chat to solve it and get you back on track. Knitting Classes
This fall we are offering a combination of In-Person and Online classes. Our In-Person classes will be held at The Tea Cozy, in the morning before the shop is open, to provide a quieter environment for learning. Our Zoom classes have been held successfully online for several years and feature two cameras for clear viewing. Both are great options. We hope you'll join us to learn something new!

First Colorwork Cowl(In-Person @ The Tea Cozy) This in-person class at The Tea Cozy Yarn Shop in Seattle will build on your knitting skills and teach you how to do stranded colorwork! The First Colorwork Cowl from Brooklyn Tweed is a great intro to colorwork with easy to knit stranded motifs using only two colors at a time. Learn tips and techniques to make your first time knitting colorwork a success. Skills needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, increases, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Freja Cardigan(Online via Zoom) Freja by Brooklyn Tweed: Cardigans are a wonderful layering piece when the weather gets chilly. This dropped shoulder cardigan is worked flat in pieces from the bottom up, then sewn together. Adding pockets and/or adapting the pattern for longer sleeves is optional. In this class, the knitter will learn the Rib Cabled Cast On, Sloped & Joinery Bind Off techniques, Wrap and Turn Short Rows as well as how to block for successful seaming. This intermediate skill level bulky cardigan will be a perfect cozy addition to your fall wardrobe. Skills needed: Firm knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting flat plus familiarity with decrease and increase stitches AND you have knit at least one sweater or cardigan before. My First Raglan Sweater(Online via Zoom)
Let’s knit a sweater! Using Brooklyn Tweed’s My First Raglan Sweater pattern, we’ll learn all the important steps in knitting a top-down sweater that fits. In the first class we’ll look at gauge, sizing and how to make basic pattern adjustments. From there, we’ll breakdown each technique step by step to learn German short rows, increases & decreases with ways to track them, tips for knitting sleeves and more. You’ll finish this series with a beautiful sweater. Skills needed: Solid knowledge of knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round plus casting on and binding off. Familiarity with increases is helpful. Class Dates: Class: Wednesdays, October 4, 18; November 1, 15 & 29; December 13 from 1:00 - 2:30 pm. Please note, class on October 18 is from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. My First Hat(Online via Zoom)
Knit your first hat! In this class we’ll learn all the basics of knitting in the round: casting on, decreases, using double point needles plus binding off, weaving in ends and blocking. In two sessions you’ll have a chunky hat to keep you warm and the skills to make more. Skills Needed: Basic knowledge of knit and purl stitches, plus casting on and binding off. My First Cowl(In-Person @ The Tea Cozy)
Learn to knit! (Or refresh your skills). In this class we’ll learn all the knitting basics: casting on, knitting, and purling, binding off plus seaming the finished garment. In three sessions you’ll have your very own chunky cowl and the skills to make more. Skills needed: None! This class is for absolute beginners.
