The Tea Cozy is a yarn shop for everyone—from the absolute beginner to the more experienced. We offer a wide range of classes and workshops for all skill levels. Come meet other students and learn from our friendly instructors in a setting that’s comfortable and, of course, cozy. Our goal is to inspire you, give you confidence in your skills, and introduce you to the wonderful world of creating with fibers.


Intro to Knitting

Never held a knitting needle before? No problem! In this class we’ll cover all the basics of knitting: casting on, knitting and purling, binding off, and seaming your finished garment. At the end of the sessions you will walk away with your very own chunky cowl; and know how to make more.

Beginner Sweater Class:

Flax Sweater

Saturdays       February 3 & 10,  March 3 & 10              3:00 – 4:30 pm



Flax is a perfect first sweater because it’s done seamlessly from the top down.  It comes it size newborn to 4XL; so many choices!  Help and tips will be provided throughout.

*Please knit a gauge swatch if possible before class.

Stopover Icelandic Sweater Class

New Class Session

Thursdays       January 25, February 15 & March 8           5:30 – 7:30 pm


  Are you ready to start your first colorwork sweater? Knit this modern Icelandic style designed by Mary Jane Mucklestone. Learn how to knit a sweater in the round and work a color pattern in the yoke. In this class you will learn how to knit and fit a lightweight, but warm pullover. Jule will teach you how to follow a color chart, knit colorwork and maintain tension. Check out the projects knit from this pattern on Ravelry to see some color inspiration.

Learn to Knit a Lace Shawl

Thursdays       February 8 and March 1            5:30 – 7:30 pm



If you can knit, purl and decrease, you are ready to try knitting lace. Use one skein of your favorite sock yarn to knit a stunning new accessory. In this class you will start a lace shawl following the Reyna Shawl pattern designed by Noora Laivola. Jule has many tips for keeping your lace stitches organized, tension even, and how to correct errors in lace.

Materials: Please print the pattern from Ravelry, yarn and needles suggested. Please note that a light or medium colored yarn will make it easier to see your lace stitches and a lace knitting needle with a pointed tip will help work the pattern stitches. 10% off class materials.

Sunshine Coast Sweater

Thursdays           March 15, 29, April 19             5:30 – 7:30 pm



The Sunshine Coast Sweater designed by Heidi Kirrmaier is a flattering A-line shape that can be knit for warm or cool weather. It is knit without seams from the top down and the design details will provide you with some new challenges to master. Jule will help you decipher directions, fix any wayward stitches and achieve the perfect fit.

Materials: Please purchase the pattern and supplies listed on the pattern. Knit and wash or black a 4″ by 4″ gauge swatch in stockinette stitch. Measure your stitches and rows over 4 inches before and after washing or blocking. 10% off class materials.

Reuse, Recycle and Reduce Your Yarn Stash

Sunday           January 28           12:30 – 3:30 pm



Jule has many recipes and project ideas for your leftover yarn. You will learn how to measure and calculate the amount of yarn needed for many stash projects. We will also discuss combining different fibers of different weights and how to guesstimate your new stitch gauge. Any extreme stash confessions stay in the knitting class.

Project Knit and Crochet with Jule

Mondays                First session is January 8, 2018         5 – 7 pm           



This ongoing class is open to all levels from Newbie to Guru. Bring whatever you are working on or get help starting a new project or learning a new technique. Jule’s guidance and purls of wisdom will help you decipher directions, fix a knit or crochet crisis, and achieve perfect fit. Yes, all your questions about blocking, sewing and finishing can be answered. Each student works on their own project, at their own pace.

Sock Workshops

Tuesdays                  5:30 – 6:30 pm



Hand knit socks are the best! We are here to help with a sock you are stuck on, or guide you with your first experience. The sock yarns available are magical in color ways and they are a fun, portable project. Come to one workshop or any number of them.

Summer Tank Top Class

Thursdays                March 22, April 5, May 3             5:30 – 7:30


Start a tank top to wear this Summer and continue wearing it under a jacket when the weather cools again. The Big Wave pattern, designed by Heidi Kirrmaier, is knit from the top down without seams. The gentle A-line shape was flattering to everyone who knit one last year.

Stitch Pattern of the Month

Second Tuesday of every month    2-3:30 pm


As long as people have been knitting, they’ve been combining knit and purl stitches in different ways to create hundreds of patterns. Each month we choose a different pattern to master and knit into a square—a fun way to expand your knitting repertoire. Once you’ve made enough squares, we’ll show you how to crochet them together to make a baby blanket or afghan. Join any month.

Project Help for Knit & Crochet

Tuesdays 4 – 5:30pm | Fridays 10:30-12pm | Saturdays, 12:30-2pm 


Need help with an especially challenging project? Got yourself into a fix you can’t get out of? Rediscovered a project that’s been hibernating so long you can’t figure out where to pick it up again? We’re here to help! Call ahead to reserve a spot. We can get you over a rough patch, or guide you from cast-on to bind-off.

Class Policies

Classes are limited in size and are filled on a first-come, first served basis.    To sign up please call us at 206.783.3322 or stop by the shop.


All classes and workshops require payment in full upon registration. Students must call 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend a class and may rebook for another class or receive a store credit. No refunds are issued for missed classes. If we cancel a class, you’ll receive a full refund.


Yarn and other supplies for all classes are available at The Tea Cozy and can be purchased anytime before the class begins. Just make sure leave yourself plenty of time to fondle all the yarn. Registered students receive 10% off all class supplies.
