The Tea Cozy is a yarn shop for everyone—from the absolute beginner to the more experienced. We offer a wide range of classes and workshops for all skill levels. Come meet other students and learn from our friendly instructors in a setting that’s comfortable and, of course, cozy. Our goal is to inspire you, give you confidence in your skills, and introduce you to the wonderful world of creating with fibers.

 

Beginner Sweater Class

Saturdays       September 23, 30 & October 21               3:00 – 4:30 pm

 

 

The Trail Jacket, designed by Hannah Fettig, is a cool cardigan that is perfect for the beginner venturing into garment knitting.  This is a top-down, seamless sweater that knits up quickly in an aran weight yarn. Help will be provided with sizing, fit, buttonholes and more.

Materials:  Please print the pattern from Ravelry, it can also be found in the book Knitbot Essentials by Hannah Fettig. Aran Weight yarn in the amount needed for your size and needles suggested. 10% discount on class supplies.

Stopover Icelandic Sweater Class

Thursdays       September 14, October 5 & 26            5:30 – 7:00 pm

 

 Are you ready to start your first colorwork sweater? Knit this modern Icelandic style designed by Mary Jane Mucklestone. Learn how to knit a sweater in the round and work a color pattern in the yoke. In this class you will learn how to knit and fit a lightweight, but warm pullover. Jule will teach you how to follow a color chart, knit colorwork and maintain tension.

Classic Mittens

Saturdays      December 2 & 9           2:30 – 4:00 pm

 

 Learn to knit in the round using double pointed needles or magic loop. Thumb gusset and mitten tops will be covered; can be made as pictured in stripes or in all one color.

You will have a pair of classic mittens completed for the winter holidays!

Purl Soho Garter Ear Flap Hat

Saturdays       November 11 and 25             2:30 – 4:00 pm

 

 

This adorable hat is perfect for winter weather and comes in lots of sizes! You will learn short row shaping for the ear flaps as well as the shape of the hat, knitting in the round, decreasing the top with double pointed needles or magic loop method.

Cowichan Style Child’s Sweater

Saturdays       October 21, November 4 & 18            3:00 – 4:30 pm

 

 

This class offers an introduction to stranded colorwork done in the Salish tradition. Using bulky single ply yarn from Canada, you have the choice to knit either a little sweater jacket or vest with Charlotte’s darling pattern “Polar Explorer Junior”.

Materials:  Lopi yarn from Prairie Fusion Mills, available at the shop, or similar bulky weight wool in 3 colors, needle to obtain gauge. Pattern included in price of class. Homework will be provided after September 1.

Project Knit and Crochet with Jule

Sundays             October 1 and December 3               12:30 – 2:00 pm           

 

 

Work on a current project or get started with your gift knitting. This ongoing class is open to all levels from Newbie to Guru. Bring whatever you are working on or get help starting a new project. Jule’s guidance and purls of wisdom will help you decipher directions, fix a knit or crochet crisis, and achieve the perfect fit. Each student works on their own project, at their own pace.

Intro to Knitting

Never held a knitting needle before? No problem! In this class we’ll cover all the basics of knitting: casting on, knitting and purling, binding off, and seaming your finished garment. At the end of the sessions you will walk away with your very own chunky cowl; and know how to make more.

Sock Workshops

Tuesdays          September 5 & 19, October 3 & 17, November 7 & 21         5:30 – 6:30 pm

 

                       

Hand knit socks are the best! We are here to help with a sock you are stuck on, or guide you with your first experience. The sock yarns available are magical in color ways and they are a fun, portable project. Come to one workshop or any number of them.

Stitch Pattern of the Month

Second Tuesday of every month    2-3:30 pm

 

As long as people have been knitting, they’ve been combining knit and purl stitches in different ways to create hundreds of patterns. Each month we choose a different pattern to master and knit into a square—a fun way to expand your knitting repertoire. Once you’ve made enough squares, we’ll show you how to crochet them together to make a baby blanket or afghan. Join any month.

Project Help for Knit & Crochet

Tuesdays 4 – 5:30pm | Fridays 10:30-12pm | Saturdays, 12:30-2pm 

 

Need help with an especially challenging project? Got yourself into a fix you can’t get out of? Rediscovered a project that’s been hibernating so long you can’t figure out where to pick it up again? We’re here to help! Call ahead to reserve a spot. We can get you over a rough patch, or guide you from cast-on to bind-off.

Class Policies

Classes are limited in size and are filled on a first-come, first served basis.    To sign up please call us at 206.783.3322 or stop by the shop.

 

All classes and workshops require payment in full upon registration. Students must call 24 hours in advance if they are unable to attend a class and may rebook for another class or receive a store credit. No refunds are issued for missed classes. If we cancel a class, you’ll receive a full refund.

 

Yarn and other supplies for all classes are available at The Tea Cozy and can be purchased anytime before the class begins. Just make sure leave yourself plenty of time to fondle all the yarn. Registered students receive 10% off all class supplies.
